چکیده

In this paper we present a computer{assisted proof of the existence of a solution for the Feigenbaum equation '(x) = 1 '('( x)): There exist by now various such proofs in the literature. Although the one presented here is new, the main purpose of this paper is not to provide yet another version, but to give an easy{to{read and self contained introduction to the technique of computer{assisted proofs in analysis. Our proof is written in Prolog (Programming in logic), a programming language which we found to be well suited for this purpose. In this paper we also give an introduction to Prolog, so that even a reader without prior exposure to programming should be able to verify the correctness of the proof. 1 Supported in Part by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. DMS{9103590, and by the Texas Advanced Research Program under Grant No. ARP{035. 2 Supported in Part by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

The Evaluation of Using Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) Facilities in Developing EFL Among Islamic Azad University Practitioners: The Case of Computer Literacy

The present study investigated the university practitioners’ attitudes towards using computer assisted language learning (CALL) in teaching English language at Islamic Azad universities of Khuzestan Province. This study was also to examine the English as foreign language (EFL) MA and PhD teachers’ computer literacy and its effects on using CALL facilities in English classrooms. The participants...

Nurse rostering using fuzzy logic: A case study

In this paper, we used the fuzzy set theory for modeling flexible constraints and uncertain data in nurse scheduling problems and proposed a fuzzy linear model for nurse rostering problems. The developed model can produce rosters that satisfy hospital objectives, ward requirements and staff preferences by satisfying their requests as much as possible. Fuzzy sets are used for modeling demands of...

Teaching approaches to Computer Assisted Language Learning

Computers have been used for language teaching ever since the 1960's.Learning a second language is a challenging endeavor, and, for decades now, proponents of computer assisted language learning (CALL) have declared that help is on the horison. We investigate the suitability of deploying speech technology in computer based systems that can be used to teach foreign language skills. In this case,...

Gödel Logics: Foundations and Applications to Computer Science

Gödel logics are a family of many-valued logics which have recently received significant attention in Computer Science. They are one of the families of logics which have been used as a basis of fuzzy logic; they have been used to give characterizations of the stable model semantics in logic programming; and they have been put forward as candidates for a logical analysis of parallel computation....

Protocol Composition Logic

Protocol Composition Logic (PCL) is a logic for proving authentication and secrecy properties of network protocols. This chapter presents the central concepts of PCL, including a protocol programming language, the semantics of protocol execution in the presence of a network attacker, the syntax and semantics of PCL assertions, and axioms and proof rules for proving authentication properties. Th...
